What is card ripping? Rip one and see
Ripping is paying to open a pack of trading cards. On an app the pack opens on screen and a real card is held for you. Tap the pack, then read what each word means in the apps' own terms.

Card form without a dotted underline is our reading of the app's own description. Packz's terms say a card “may be graded or ungraded”.
What a slab is
A slab is a graded card sealed in a hard plastic case. Three parts carry the information.

- 1The label names the grader9 of 27 rated apps name who grades their cards: Arena Club (Grades cards itself), Phygitals (PSA), Courtyard (PSA), Ripit (PSA), MNSTR (PSA, CGC, BGS), Rips by Triumph (PSA), Underdog Rips (PSA), Beezie (PSA), GameStop Power Packs (PSA).
- 2The grade is a score for conditionPacks can be sold by grade. Courtyard lists a pack called “Pokémon PSA 10” at $69.
- 3The case is the slabThe sealed holder is what the hobby calls a slab.“A virtual pack representing physical graded Cards or ‘slabs’” Arena Club, terms of service. Open the pageNo commission
- 4No case means rawAn app's terms decide what counts as graded, and may promise nothing about the grade.“Unless a card is specifically identified as a grade, or if it is marked as “raw”, or if a Pokemon card is not displayed in a PSA marked case, such card is being sold as a “raw” / ungraded collectible.” Rips by Triumph, terms of use. Open the pageNo commission
Packz's terms add: “Packz does not guarantee any grade, condition, third-party grading determination, or future market value.” Whether a slab is worth what an app says is a trust question, covered in are card rip apps legit?

Questions people ask
What is card ripping?
Opening a pack of trading cards. On a rip app you pay, the pack opens on screen and a physical card is held for you to sell back or have shipped, and at some apps to keep in storage. All 27 apps we rate sell packs this way; at ripz.gg only certain cards can be redeemed physically.
What are slab packs?
Packs that hold a card already graded and sealed in a case. Arena Club's terms call it “A virtual pack representing physical graded Cards or ‘slabs’”. 11 of 27 rated apps are described as selling graded cards only; see best slab packs.
Is a digital pack a real card?
The pack is digital; the card is described as physical. 27 of 27 rated apps say they will ship it, at your cost. We have not received one, so we cannot report on delivery.
Is a rip the same as a break?
No. In a rip you buy one pack and get its card. A break is opened live by a seller for several buyers. See card rips vs card breaks.
