Card rip odds explained: one pack, read three ways

Apps publish odds as one average, as value bands or as a chance for every card. MNSTR prints all three for one $50 pack, so here it is in each. Switch the format and watch what goes missing.

Which format each rated app uses

Counted from each app's own pages. 11 of the 13 packs we hold a table for also state an average.

The average is not the middle pack

MNSTR states $54.75 a card on this $50 pack. Its own table puts the middle pack at $38.

$49.15average card in the other 98: under the $50 price

MNSTR Starter, $50, read 7 October 2026. Our sum of its per-card table; the luckiest packs are the ones holding its dearest cards. The average first drops under the price with 2 packs in 100 left out. Cards up to $38 are 50.1% of packs on the rounded chances shown, so the middle pack could be the next card up, $38.96.

An average counts every pack, the rare dear ones included. The middle pack, the median, is the one half of all packs fall at or below. Added up, the table gives $54.60: its chances are rounded and total 100.10%.

Hit rates: the list starts at the wrong end

A hit rate is the chance of one named card in one pack. Lists put the dearest cards first, where the chances are smallest.

Questions about odds

What does EV mean on a card rip app?

Expected value: the long-run average card value per pack, at the app's own card prices. MNSTR states $54.75 on its $50 Starter pack. It is not what a typical pack holds: on that pack's own table the middle card is $38.

What is a hit rate?

The chance of one named card, or one tier of cards, in a single pack. Arena Club's help centre puts it as “Hit Rate is the likelihood that you'll get a specific card in your pack.” A hit rate of 0.0005% is about one pack in 200,000.

Is the median or the average the better number?

They answer different questions. The average is what a very long run of packs comes to per pack. The median is the card value a single pack is as likely to beat as not. For a handful of packs the median is the closer guide, and you usually have to work it out yourself.

Do the odds change after I look?

They can. 13 of 27 rated apps say in writing that odds move as cards are pulled, and the bands on our example pack moved between two reads a day apart. The odds and terms tracker logs dated changes.

Has anyone checked that pulls match the published odds?

Not us. Every figure here is an operator's published one or a sum of them, and nothing has been tested with money. What can and cannot be known from outside is in are card rip apps legit?
