What each app's own odds add up to

The average value of what a pack holds, as a share of what the pack costs.

Average pack contents as a share of the pack price, on each app's own values

  • Courtyard's own “average item value”, on all 3 packs · valued in US dollars
  • Our sum of its per-card odds, on all 25 packs · valued in site coins
  • Our sum of its drop tables, on all 99 boxes · valued in gems

No Magic pack read is priced below what its own figures say is inside, and the share barely moves from pack to pack within an app. These are each app's own card values, not market prices, and not what a sell-back pays: for that, see cashing out and how odds are published.

A hit is one or more cards the app values at the pack price or more. Prices and card values are in site coins, which Packs.com puts at one US dollar each. Pack listNo commission

Every pack averages the same share of its price, so the choice is about shape. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pays that average through a few very dear cards; Lord of the Rings spreads it. The dearest single card is in The Hobbit, valued at 31,087.10 coins. Full card lists for five of these packs are on the pull checklist.

Everything here is in gems. Its help centre puts a gem at “approximately $0.01” and shows exact prices only at checkout, so we have not converted them. A sell-back pays gems, which cannot be turned into money: see the BOXED.GG review. The boxes are the first 100 its MTG tab loads.

Courtyard's own bands, which it says are worked out in real time, so they move. Pack pageNo commission

Its page says: “Each digital pack contains one sealed Magic: The Gathering booster pack that can be shipped to you.” What you pull is a sealed pack, to keep, sell back or ship. The two sold-out packs showed “Distribution is not available at the moment”, so only the $50 pack's bands are drawn.

Questions people ask

Which rip apps sell Magic: The Gathering packs?

Of the 27 apps we rate, Courtyard, BOXED.GG, Packs.com showed Magic packs on their own pages when read. No other app whose pack page opened did; 4 could not be checked.

Are these real Magic booster packs?

Only at Courtyard, whose pack holds one sealed booster. A Packs.com pack is digital: cards are drawn slot by slot from a list with a published chance each. A BOXED.GG box pays one card from a drop table. Both then hold a real card for you.

Can I cash out a Magic pull?

None of them pay a sell-back in cash. Courtyard pays in a stablecoin. BOXED.GG and Packs.com pay in site credit. The cash-out comparison has each rule.

Are these packs licensed by Wizards of the Coast?

No page we read claims a licence. Packs.com's footer says: “Packs is not affiliated with Nintendo, Disney, Wizards of the Coast, Riot Games, or Bandai Namco.” Each pack or box is the app's own product; only Courtyard's holds a sealed booster.

Which Magic pack has the best odds?

On paper none stands out: every pack at an app averages the same share of its price. Courtyard has the highest share, 96%. See is card ripping worth it for the sums.
