How Underdog Rips works and makes money

You buy a digital pack inside the Underdog Sports app and one physical card, supplied and stored by Phygitals, is revealed. You have three days to ship it or sell it back at the value Underdog set.

Tap the pack to walk one rip at Underdog Rips, with its own published term at each step. No money, no real cards.

This guide covers the mechanics only. Whether it suits you is in the Underdog Rips review, and the basics of the format are in what card ripping is.

Where the money goes

One pack, followed from your payment to what arrives. Only terms read on Underdog Rips' own pages enter the sum.

Pack price
The card is valued at
Underdog Rips publishes no average for this pack, so the sum starts from an assumption. Dashed choices are assumptions, not published figures.
  1. You pay$100
The price of one Sports and Pokémon pack.
  2. Card value (assumed)$100
An assumption, not a published figure. Underdog Rips sets the value its offer is based on.
  3. Sell-back offer$100

Read on the operator's own page

“the buyback offer is set at 100% of FMV — the same value determined at pack reveal”

100% of a value Underdog sets itself, from Alt, CardLadder and its own pricing system. The terms give no percentage: 'you will be credited the fair market value'. The options article adds 'if that option is available for the card'.

Cash: advertised, not in its terms

The operator's marketing says this; its terms do not

“Keep it or flip it back for cash.”

The terms say only that 'you will be credited the fair market value'. Underdog balances are either withdrawable cash or bonus funds, and no page read says which one a Rips credit is.

    Can be withdrawn
    Yes

Read on the operator's own page

“you may close your Account and withdraw your Account balance at any time and for any reason”

True of the Underdog account. A help article says “Only the withdrawable portion of your account balance can be withdrawn”, and no page read says a Rips sell-back credit is in it.

  6. On the assumption that the card is worth the pack price, the full $100 comes back. Underdog Rips publishes no average card value, so the real figure cannot be worked out. No selling fee is published, so none is taken off here.

How a sell-back is paid, cash or credit, is not confirmed on a public page.

Run the same sum for every app in the cash-back calculator, weigh the three exits in keep, sell or ship, or see every app's exit terms on the cash-out page.

Questions about how Underdog Rips works

How does Underdog Rips work?

You buy a digital pack in the Games section of the Underdog Sports app, from $5 to $2,500, and one physical card is revealed. For three days you can sell it back at the value Underdog put on it, or pay to have it shipped within the US. After three days it is sold back for you.

How does Underdog Rips make money?

Its own pages state: dormant account fee. Not published: pack price above average card value, fee on a sell-back, shipping or retrieval fee and split between Underdog and Phygitals. We do not estimate margins or what Underdog Rips pays for cards.

Where do Underdog Rips cards come from?

From Phygitals Inc., which the terms name as the independent company “sourcing, storing, and shipping” the cards. The help centre names the PSA, Fanatics and Alt vaults. What Phygitals or Underdog pays for a card is not published.

Can you withdraw an Underdog Rips sell-back?

Not confirmed. The App Store listing says “flip it back for cash” and the terms say you are “credited”. An Underdog balance is either bonus funds or withdrawable cash, and no page we read says which one a sell-back lands in.

What is the catch with Underdog Rips?

The clock. A card not shipped within three days is “deemed sold back to Underdog”, with a push notification attempted, not promised. The 100% sell-back is 100% of a value Underdog sets itself, odds are shown only in the app, and the shipping fee has no published amount.
