Card rip buybacks explained: one card, five stops

A buyback is the app offering to buy your card for a share of the value it shows. Pick an app and step along the clock to see what its own pages say at each stop, from the reveal to a sale made for you.

One card through the clock

Set the value the app shows for your card. Each line is what that app's own pages say, in the order it happens.

The rate comes first and the fee second. Where no rate is in writing, there is nothing to work out before you buy. To compare what every app pays on one card, use cashing out.

A share of what?

The 17 written rate lines use 6 different names for the figure the percentage applies to.

Estimated value3 of 17Arena Club, RipRip.io, Stadium Vault

Insured value1 of 17Collector Crypt
Gem value1 of 17BOXED.GG

Whatever the name, it is the figure the app shows for the card, not a sale price. Who sets it, and how far it sat from the market on sampled cards, is in fair market value explained.

Questions about buybacks

What does a 90% buyback mean?

The app offers to buy the card for 90% of the value it shows for it. That value is the app's own figure, not a sale price, and a fee can come off after. Repackz states 90% and a 6% fee: $84.00 on a card it values at $100.

Is a buyback the same as selling the card?

It is a sale, but to one buyer at that buyer's price: the app sets both the value and the share of it. Selling to another collector means listing the card and paying a marketplace's fees. Sell your pulls sets the routes side by side.

What happens if I don't accept a buyback?

It depends on the app. 9 of 27 have terms that sell, return or convert a card left alone, after 1 to 10 days. On 11 the offer closes and no forced sale is stated. 7 give no deadline.

Can I withdraw a buyback as cash?

Only where the buyback pays a cash balance and the app lets you withdraw it. 12 of 27 pay a cash balance, 8 pay a stablecoin and 6 pay site credit. The withdrawals guide has each app's route.

How long do I have to accept a buyback?

16 of 27 apps state a limit, from 15 minutes to 7 days after the reveal. The rest give no limit, which is not a promise that the offer stays open.
